EBay at Valley Fair is Over

Posted by Gwen on December 28, 2012

selling-assistant.jpgI ran by the EBay kiosk on Friday last week (December 21st) and stopped by to have a quick chat and found out that EBay was planning to shut down the Instant Sale/ Drop Off program they had set up at the Macy's Women's side of the mall.

Valley Fair has Ebay Instant Sale

Posted by Gwen on December 05, 2012

Yes, it was a busy working day, and I can't explain why I was cruising through Valley Fair at 2:00-ish on Wednesday, but I have another story to talk about rather than my detour from my Apple Store jaunt.

On my way out ( via Macy's, of course) there was a new kiosk by the escalators for Ebay's new big deal: Instant Sale.  But what is Instant Sale?

Simple Affordable Websites - 15 Designs

Posted by Gwen on December 05, 2012

simple-website.png One day about a month back, one of our customers said they had a super quick project and was there anything we could do to make it a little bit more affordable. Normally web design runs about $65.00 to $85.00 a page depending on what's needed and how big the project is.

He really wanted to work with us, but really couldn't justify $450.00 or more on the project. He said that it was something for a singing group and they just wanted a page for fans and stage managers to check. He only wanted to work with us, and didn't want to go do everything himself, with kids, the job and his singing group.

We thought about it, and then we did something about it. We found a handful of templates that seemed like they would work out and sent them to the client via email, so he could see what was there.

He immediately shot an email back and said: "I like #5 - how much?" After a brief debate, we sent an email back: "$50.00"

"Great!", was the reply, "Set it up!"

How to Convert XLSX to XLS for Free

Posted by Gwen on October 08, 2012

Ever have someone send you an XLSX file and you can't open it? You know that the new format has been out for some time now, and becuase of this embarrasment factor you don't want to have that person resend it as a XLS, or it's too late in the day and you really have to get at the information.

The next step is to turn to the internet on the search term: "convert xlsx to xls" and you get all these sites that will do it for free, but you have to give them your email address, or you have to download something, or you spend all your time clicking through their heirarchy of pages and then their "free" converter does not work.

Chilling Effects DMCA Notification

Posted by Gwen on October 01, 2012

We ran up against the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act in all it's somewhat missplaced glory over the last month, when we put in   " clickactivate.com " on a straight google search and discovered that there was this notification that showed up at the bottom of our search results:

In response to a complaint we received under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act, we have removed 1 result(s) from this page. If you wish, you may read the DMCA complaint that caused the removal(s) at ChillingEffects.org.

Google AdSense Academy

Posted by Gwen on August 31, 2012

For anyone interested in doing advertising and have decided to go into the AdSense side of the Google advertising paradigm ( as opposed to Adwords) - I would highly recommend checking out their blog :  Google - Inside Adsense Blog, link for the Adsense Academy

This link is nice in that you don't need to be logged into a Google account to look at the 6 steps. There is also a handy quiz at the end of each section so that you know if you are covering the right information that Google needs.

This information is great for bloggers, game sites, forums, classifieds, and news media centers, who are planning on running ads on their site with the content advertisers are looking for.

Kony 2012 Invisible Children: top viral video

Posted by Gwen on July 11, 2012

kony-2012.jpg     I get daily updates from an organization called Ad Age and in the overwhelming deluge of information about display ads, tv, blogging, micro sites and all the rest (but, I must admit - I love it), sometimes something really meaningful comes along. Today was just that day, when the Ad Age Viral video chart landed in my inbox and on the list of traditional marketing media  for such companies as Visa and Virgin Mobile (with a video about Brad's brother, Doug Pitt)    - there was something that was unique and it was called "Invisible Children".

I clicked on it and it was immediately intrigued and instead of ending in 30 secs like most, it kept going. I clicked on the info bar and realized it was 29 minutes long. Keep going on my busy Wed morning? You bet.

I promise you won't feel the same after watching this.
